Faith Promises
God’s Word clearly reveals that our giving is simply returning back to God a portion of what He has already given us. Obedience in tithing is a sure way to see God work in our personal lives. The foundation for a faith promise is taught by Paul in 2 Corinthians 8 & 9 where he shares the inspiring story of the sacrificial faith giving of Macedonia. Paul teaches that the Macedonian churches gave in two ways: according to their ability and beyond their ability.
When we give beyond our ability to help those on foreign fields, we step out in faith that He who has given is able to multiple what we continue to sow in His name. As you do your part, His purpose will be accomplished both in your life and in the lives of others around the world.
A Faith Promise is a voluntary commitment a person makes to give a fixed amount regularly to a missions budget for a year. The Faith Promise is solemn because it is made primarily to God. No one is billed for the payment. The Faith Promise is between the giver and God.
A Faith Promise is an agreement we make with God. We determine in prayer the amount of our faith promise. It is a “promise” because of the agreement to provide a certain amount over a specific period of time. It requires “faith” because we are trusting God to provide the funds in various ways. It is personal because we surrender to Him what we have so He can supply what is lacking. This agreement is made between God and the individual.
Every family can make a faith promise or each member - even children - can make individual faith promises.
WHAT IF I AM UNABLE TO MAKE A LARGE FAITH PROMISE?
No amount is too small. God honors and uses our obedience more than the amount of our giving. Limited income should not prevent anyone from making a faith promise. Jesus said that the widow who gave just a “mite” in the offering gave more than the others because she gave from what she had.
WHY SHOULD I FILL OUT MY FAITH PROMISE CARD?
When members work together as a body and make these faith promise commitments, church leaders are able to determine how much the church can commit to support work outside of the church.
WHO WILL KNOW WHAT MY FAITH PROMISE COMMITMENT IS?
Only those who supervise funds will see your commitment. Faith promises are totaled and only the final amount is shared publicly.
IF I HAVE DONE THIS BEFORE, DO I NEED TO DO IT AGAIN?
Yes. Each faith promise is made for a specific period of time.
